ADSL Connections

Birmingham schools were originally connected to the BGfL network and onwards to the Internet using ISDN/2 lines, which operate at 128 kilobits per second. The next stage in this process involved delivering services to schools using a technology known as ADSL.  This was our preferred option for primary and nursery schools from 2003.

We have now provided affordable faster connections for all schools as part of the new City wide network, developed in conjunction with the corporate City Council network team. This provides 10 megabits per second for all primary and secondary schools.

Some sites are, however, still using ADSL connections including Community Day Nurseries and outlying sites.
