How to install PVX with the correct settings
In order to use PVX the web camera, its drivers and software must first be installed according to the manufacturers instructions. PVX may then be installed from CD/download which will copy the necessary files to your PC and place a PVX icon on the desktop. The first time PVX is run it will request certain settings, details of which are found in this document. You will also require a valid license for the software.
The latest version of the PVX software (8.0.2) is available to download here: PVX_802.exe the windows may look a little different in the latest version, but the setting applied remain the same.
Note: this is not free software, nor do Link2ICT provide licenses f.o.c. The software is the property of Polycom and you will need to purchase a license if you do not already have one.

Double click the PVX icon on the desktop to launch PVX. |

The first screen asks you to choose your language preference from the drop down menu and also checks whether the camera and drivers were correctly installed.
After selecting your preferred language click the Next button.

The next screen requests user details. The name should ideally reflect the location of the camera and, if multiple systems are in use a number, e.g. school_name_PVX1.
The e-mail address should generally be the e-mail address of the network manager or a general address, e.g. enquiry@school_name.bham.sch.uk.
The E.164 extension should be the 17 digit number assigned to your PVX device by the BGfL Network Services Team.
Once this information has been entered click the Next button.

In the address book setup screen the following information should be entered:
In the first ILS box enter ils.bgfl.org
In the first GDS box delete the existing entry and type 10.120.224.32 and tick the box next to it to register the PVX system with the server.
Click the Next button.

On this screen click the Next button. |

To enable remote support of your system you should enter a password (minimum seven letters) in the Admin Password box. Make a note of this password somewhere safe!
Tick the box next to Auto-start the web server.
Click the Next button.

Move the volume slider until the ringing tone is at a comfortable level. If you do not hear a ringing tone ensure that your speakers/headphones are correctly connected and turned on and that the PCs audio drivers/settings are correct.
Click the Next button.

The settings on this page can be left at their defaults and may be changed in the PVX settings later if required.
Click the Next button.

In Network Setup ensure that Use the PCs Local IP Address is selected and that the IP address shown next to this is correct. If you wish to use PVX via VPN please contact the BGfL Network Services team via the Link2ICT Service Desk:
This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
Ensure that the Use Fixed Ports box is ticked and that the ports listed are 3230 to 3235.
Click the Next button.

The PVX setup is now complete.
Click the Finish button.
Finally the gatekeeper address must be set in the PVX settings page.
Start PVX, if it is not running, and click the spanner icon in the top left-hand corner of the main screen to open the settings window.
Click the H.323 tab on the left in the settings window.
In the Gatekeeper section click the Specify button and type the following into the text box:
80.249.56.3:1719
In the Quality of Service section enter 4 against IP Precedence which should already be selected.
Click the OK button.
PVX should now connect to the Gatekeeper and allow you to make calls to other E.164 numbers across the city. Your E.164 number and those of all the other endpoints currently connected to the network will appear in the Global Directory.
