Using ISDN

Your Videoconferencing network has been provided with a Codian ISDN gateway connected to a Primary Rate Interface (PRI) giving you 31 X 64 kb/s (1984 k/bs) available for ISDN calls. To use the ISDN gateway follow these simple steps.

Using the ISDN Gateway.

Calling out
You can make calls to other ISDN Videoconferencing units as follows.
Select the Video Call box on your Polycom Viewstaion and hit the call button on your Polycom remote. This will bring up the Videophone screen.
Enter your ISDN number, for example the Global Leap Test number is 02084262194
Next scroll down to next box of the Video phone screen below the above number and on the left. Hit the Polycom remote control select button (the RED button) you will find this box toggles to AUTO or IP or ISDN, you need to select AUTO. Go to the next box to choose the speed of the ISDN call to your destination. This will typically be 2 x64 or 128.
2 x 64 is for unbonded ISDN calls. We have found that this is required if you wish to connect to Videoconference units used by Moorhouse Black. For any other types of units use 128. If your destination VC unit supports greater speeds choose the appropriate speed up to 384. Hit call to complete the call. Remember you will be paying for this call.

For more advanced users we have a short cut for ISDN dialing.
To make an ISDN call, just select the video call box on your PolyCom unit.
Enter 81 followed by your ISDN number for a 2 x 64Kbps ISDN call, choose IP and speed of 2 x 64. Press the cal button to make the call.
As above enter the prefix 82 for a 128Kbps ISDN call, a prefix of 84 fo a 256Kbps ISDN call, and a prefix of 86 for a 384 Kbps ISDN call.

Some examples:- To connect to the Global Leap test site, their ISDN number is 02084262194. To make a ISDN call enter 8202084262194 in the vide call box on your PolyCom unit, select IP and a speed of 128. Then select the call button to make the call.

Calling in
Use this method if you want the caller to pay for the ISDN call.
The ISDN gateway telephone number is 0121 242 7300, or if you need to dial from outside the UK it is 44 121 242 7300.
The VC unit of the caller dials the above number. They will be answered and a message requesting an the user to enter a E164 number followed by a # sign is heard.
The caller must enter the E164 number of the VC unit to be connected. This can be found below in E164 numbers. Once the E164 number followed by the # is entered the call will complete.
