A news article from the BBC highlights the concerns of professionals becoming victims of abuse while working with young people: Teachers bullied by 'hate sites', read the full article. Working with Childnet International, the South West Grid for Learning is in the process of establishing a helpline and web resources to support professionals dealing with this issue. We wish to better understand the prevalence of this problem and also the nature of incidents. We are working with the University of Plymouth to conduct a brief survey to collect your own experiences related to these issues. The survey comprises of 20 short questions and will take no more than 5 minutes to complete. All data collected is entirely anonymous and will be stored securely, accessible only by the researchers in this project. If you have any questions about the nature or process of this survey, please contact Professor Andy Phippen

8th Annual Safer Internet Day focusing on enjoying gaming safely, sees launch of new UK Safer Internet website with wide range of resources for schools in UK. Safer Internet Day, now in its 8th year, is celebrated in over 65 countries and it is an opportunity to recognise the importance of the Internet in the lives of children and young people, and to help work to ensure that they and those that support children, parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, know how to get the most out of this resource and use it safely and responsibly. The focus this year, particularly in the UK is on games and gaming, as well as communicating the wider message that online actions can have offline consequences, both now and in the future. Research shows that games are enormously popular with children, with 86% of 9-16s use the internet to play games, and in terms of online activity for young people it comes second only to school work. The UK’s Safer Internet Centre have developed resource packs for primary and secondary schools, these can be downloaded form here: http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/download-school-packs There are also a range of resources available on the WMNet e-safety pages at: What will you be doing to promote e-Safety in your community?
