CyberSentinel - e-Safety for the home

How safe are your children when they use the Internet?  Are they at risk from online predators, unsuitable content and harmful influences?

In a bid to support parents and carers with this, Birmingham City Council has partnered with Forensic Software to offer CyberSentinel monitoring software free for two years, for all school children within Birmingham.

CyberSentinel protects your children from the dangers of the internet and gives them the freedom to thrive online by supervising what they do - even when you're not around. It supervises web surfing, chat rooms and social networks and lets you know if your children stray away from what you decide is appropriate.

The technology behind CyberSentinel already protects nearly one million children and students at over 1500 schools. It helps to put a stop to inappropriate and harmful computer use, whether it involves just looking or active participation. By installing CyberSentinel you will receive comprehensive and automatic protection for everyone in your home.

With CyberSentinel you can:

  • Set safe boundaries with a few clicks
  • Customise settings for each child
  • Receive email alerts if there’s a problem
  • Change the rules when you want from any on-line computer
  • Monitor them – don’t spy on them
  • Keep your privacy protected. No personal details are required – just an email address

And protect your children from:

  • Bullying and threatening behaviour
  • Inadvertent exposure to inappropriate web sites (e.g. pornography, violence, suicide)
  • Deliberate access to inappropriate web sites
  • Online gambling
  • Un-moderated discussion forums and chat rooms

How can I get the software?

The first step is to contact your child's school to get your voucher code to activate the software.

Once you have the pre-pay voucher code, click here to visit the CyberSentinel web site and follow the instructions to enter your code and download the software.
