DJ workshops

punch_logo_size_0.jpgIn collaboration with Punch (based in Birmingham) Park View CLC put on four sets of DJ workshops, 3 based at network schools and 1 at the CLC itself.

Punch has developed, over a number of years, a strong reputation for music-led arts workshops with children and young people.

Pupils were able to learn from professional musicians and DJs and use the latest technology to create music in after-school clubs.

Schools therefore have access to an up-to-date resource to trial new classroom techniques.

Photography
photo.gifPark View CLC worked with a GCSE Art and Design group Saltley School to introduce them to the use and art of digial photography.  CLC Staff visited the school for several sessions, taking out cameras and laptops. Pupils were instructed in the use of digital cameras (zoom, macro, exposure etc) and then were able to manipulate their images to show off their talents. Staff and pupils reported excellent results which would have been hard to achieve without thehelp of the CLC.

PODCASTS

Year 8 pupils from Park View School came over to the CLC to record podcasts of scripts they had written. The scripts were commentating on a piece of football footage. Pupils recorded their voice and edited the pitch to make it sound like there were two people talking. These were done in 30 minutes! we are hoping to have the class back to add sound effects and a bit of music..

Schools were then able to upload podcasts to the Radiowaves website and a wide variety of programmes were produced - comedy, news, music, interviews and much more!

Most of the radio stations are still active, providing content to the Radio Waves site.

Robosoccer
robosoccer.jpgPark View CLC has hosted a number of Lego Robosoccer tournaments with local schools. These involve building a robot footballer and then programming it to play a game against another team's robot. The result is played on a special pitch and results in tense matches and much noise! All round winners have proved to be St Alban's School.

Back to Backs Film
back_to_backs.jpgPark View CLC worked closelt with Holy Trinity School to produce a series of short films based around the Back to Back Houses in Birmingham . Pupils visited the site and then spent time at school writing scripts. The pupils, in costume, then were filmed at the Back to Backs. The resulting DVD contained short films on Victorian Life suitable for use by Key Stage 2 pupils. Editing and filming was done by Park View CLC and music was provided by local musician Phil Lewis .

Robolab Online
ict_robolab.gifAfter using Robolab successfully at the CLC we trialled the use of Robolab Online, which uses simulations of the robots to achieve learning objectives. These were received positively by visiting teachers and after a little "market research" the CLC invested in  online licenses for several of our schools. This allowed schools to use the simulations to enhance work done at the CLC and proved an excellent alternative to using the robots themselves.

Space Centre Visit
leices.gifTo enhance the learning of Year 6 pupils, Park View CLC oganised a number of trips to Leicester Space Centre. These allowed pupils to see concepts they had learned about at the CLC and in school in real life. The highlight was using the excellent Challenger mission - the staff are enthusiastic and the setting is very authentic. Pupils gained a lot from the experience and many were awed by the giant rockets on show.

Design a School
box-l.jpgUsing a game called "School Tycoon" pupils from loal Primary Schools planned and ran their own school. Starting with cards and paper they first thought about priorities for education and what buildings/employees would be needed. After that, they had a game of "School Tycoon" to get familiar with the interface. Finally, they were able to play the game on "sandbox" mode - trying to maintain grades and their financial balance! It gave all pupils a new insight into the running of their own school and, in particular, showed them the importance of school staff like cleaners, caretakers and kitchen staff.
