Maths and Science ICT Champions
Park View CLC has been working this term with several teachers in our English ICT Champion project. They have already created some exciting projects and resources and we are looking to expand the project to Science and Maths teachers. We are looking for enthusiastic teachers to sign up but spaces are limited, so please register your interest early.

Teachers will attend a full day’s training at the City Learning Centre and will be loaned a laptop, digital camera, mp3 player and other peripherals. Teachers will be able to take away the kit and will be expected to return it at the end of Autumn Term 2009.

All teachers involved will continue their training with a fully supported online course in creating resources. The online course runs for approximately 6 weeks and will enskill teachers in screen capture and multimedia presentations.

We are looking for one teacher per school to become a trailblazer (a school can have 2 different subject champions though) and teachers on the initiative will meet up regularly online to discuss and exchange lesson and teaching ideas using ICT. These shared resources will be available on a website for all to access. The aim is to build up a bank of resources which can be fully shared (with appropriate accreditation to the author!)

By using ICT in the delivery of lessons (podcasts, filmed lesson starters, visual and audio prompts etc.) teachers will be able to directly impact on the learning of their pupils.

It is hoped that this trailblazing group will find creative and exciting ways to use technology to teach Maths and Science and to pass their expertise on to Colleagues.

For more information on the Maths ICT champion project click here for an online pdf document.

For more information on the Science ICT champion project click here for an online pdf document.

If you are interested in joining this group please Contact Park View City Learning Centre for more information.

Multimedia in the classroom
audlogo.gifMultimedia for Free!      - half day session

Photostory and Audacity are completely free to download and use and they can be used by pupils in any subject area for creating truly excellent work. This session introduces the 2 pieces of software so that teachers will feel comfortable using them in the classroom. Photostory lets you create a movie slide show of photos or pictures with text, voice over, camera movement and music which allows pupils a real alternative to powerpoint when presenting information. Audacity is a multi-track sound recorder that basically allows pupils to easily create radio programmes, audio plays, raps and discussions. Both pieces of software are simple to pick up and the session is aimed at teachers who have little or no experience with the software.

CAD Free and Easy
sketchup.jpgCAD – free, professional and easy!    - whole day session

Google are once again changing the educational world. After their search engine and Google Earth they now bring us Google Sketchup. If you use CAD or want to learn how to, this session is for you. Google Sketchup is a revolutionary CAD program which is instinctive, powerful, easy and free! (see the results at http://sketchup.google.com/ and take a look at the “3D challenge” area) This program allows the generation of accurate 3D designs of anything the imagination can muster and a simple look at the website should be enough to get every D&T teacher excited! This CPD session assumes no knowledge of the program and would be equally suited to CAD novices as well as those with more experience. The day will cover basic modelling, advanced modelling (which is still pretty easy), textures and some of the other features which make the program so exciting. If you don’t sign up for a place then please download the program and go through the tutorials yourself – the program will transform your lessons.
