Children will have their own preconceived ideas about what animation is from what they have seen at the cinema and watched on television. Animation is not just Simpsons and Disney cartoons.Animation is image manipulation and it can be used on any object - from pins to people.
The key is to let the imagination run wild! Animated films and the skills needed to produce them can provide a stimulus to learning across the curriculum - especially in Art and Design, History, ICT, Science and Literacy.

The session involves using Model animation or stop motion animation.

What is it?
This involves the filming of puppets or any form of three-dimensional lego models.  The puppets or lego are positioned and filmed before being moved ever so slightly and filmed again. These shots are put together as a piece of film and will give the impression of the models moving.

How is it done?
The first steps involve creating a storyboard based around a theme. The pupils can then used created artwork or pictures for settings and backgrounds. Finally, using cameras and software students animate their characters to create a moving story.

This is run as a full day session and is suitable for key stages 2,3 and 4.
