Thank you for your support during the severe weather conditions of the past two weeks. Many parents have already been in contact with me to congratulate the school for being open for normal service during the majority of the two weeks of very severe weather. I am delighted that the staff have made such efforts to ensure that the school has been kept open and I am sure that you agree that your son/daughter’s education is a priority.
In order to maintain our high standards I am writing to remind the students that although it was acceptable to wear boots and alternative outdoor clothing during the period of snow, from Monday 18 January 2010, they will be required to wear proper black school shoes and dark outdoor coats only. Some students have been wearing plimsoles/trainers/leather jackets to school during the wet weather. These are not allowed to be worn to school. Parents of students who do not wear the correct school uniform will be contacted.
Well done to those students in Year 10/Year 11 who took their Science Module exams on Thursday. There was an excellent turnout and the students were a credit to their families. We continue to wish the 6th Form well as they continue their examinations. I am sure that their hard work will pay off when they receive their results in the summer.
Just a reminder – can you please ensure that your son/daughter attends school for all sessions and is on time each morning. Studies have shown that students who are on time and who attend on a very regular basis achieve greater success within school.
I look forward to meeting many of you on 5 February 2010 at our Parents Forum meeting where myself and Ms Gregory will give an overview of the Behaviour Consequences system.
In order to ensure that all students and staff are safe during this spell of severe weather the lunch period has been reduced and the students will finish school at 2.50 pm for the rest of this week. Although if the severe weather continues this arrangement may last slightly longer.
The throwing of snowballs in school (with the exception of the tennis court area in the playground) and within the vicinity of the school is prohibited. The students were informed of this rule this morning by staff. Those students who disregard this rule may be excluded.
Arrangements have been made for inside areas to be opened during breaks and students are encouraged to stay within the building. However in light of health and safety it is not feasible to insist that students stay in the building and some students need to burn off energy outside at breaks.
It is the school policy to ensure that school is open whenever possible. In the light of the examinations season I am particularly anxious that school is open to give our students the best possible access to lessons, revision sessions, and their examinations.
I value the support and co-operation of all parents/carers and trust that you will continue to support our school to ensure that all students and staff are safe.
Our very positive Ofsted report has now been officially posted on the Ofsted website and is now available on our school website.
The report highlights the good teaching at St Edmund Campion school with strong examples of outstanding practice.
The behaviour of the students was complimented and judged to be good in lessons and around school. The care and guidance of the students and their personal development were also judged to be good.
I hope you take time to read the full report.
I would also like to personally congratulate everyone associated with the school who have contributed to Campion’s success.
Please also look out for us in the Birmingham Mail on Tuesday 16th where we have be named as “School of the Week”.
