St. Edmund Campion RC School in Erdington held a very successful Awards’
Evening on Thursday 2nd April 2009. The Specialist Schools Trust recently listed the School as one of the 100 most improved in the country which was also recognised by the Education Secretary, Ed Balls.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Gordon Lee of the Malachi Trust, a Midlands based charity which works with vulnerable young people to provide better home and school life. Mr. Lee inspired students with a positive talk encompassing three key points of dreams, passions and hard work.
The Head Boy, Scott Brierley and Head Girl Kirsty Culkin gave excellent speeches showing themselves more than worthy of their titles.
The Headteacher, Mrs. P. Steele highlighted some of the achievements of the past year including the Mission Week, presentation of “Thoroughly Modern Millie”, Campion X Factor, students who participate in the Diocesan Lourdes Pilgrimage and the pride the school is taking in achievements in sport, music, performing arts as well as technical and vocational skills.
Mrs. Steele welcomed back last year’s leavers who achieved awards for academic success, personal achievement and contribution to school life.
The hall was packed with everyone enjoying celebrating the outcomes of outstanding achievements and hard-work.
Mr Smart the schools Business Support Manager said: " The evening was a huge success and celebrated pupil achievement at Campion, despite the "Mitchell wedding" on TV the hall was full and the pupils were once again a credit to Campion"
