Teaching and Learning, Leading in Learning
Our school ethos is one of openness, respect, trust and accountability where individuals and teams of teachers work for, and with, each other and share collective responsibility for pupil achievement. We therefore view St. Edmund Campion as a 'professional learning community' where everyone matters. In this respect we guarantee our quality of teaching through a diverse range of well resourced and effectively led lessons which promote pupil engagement and utilise modern teaching strategies including Information and Communication Technology.
Curriculum Key Stage 3 & 4
At Key Stage 3 we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which enables pupils to fulfil their needs and gain experience in a range of subjects which they may wish to follow at Key Stage 4.
Our curriculum meets the statutory requirements and in addition includes Religious Education as a core subject, reflecting our religious foundation, a second language in line with the Specialist Language Status and Citizenship.
The Key Stage 4 Curriculum offers pupils the opportunity to progress along a range of pathways, academic and vocational, so that the 14-19 phase is coherent. All students follow a core of RE, English, Maths, Science, ICT, Modern Foreign Language as well as Careers, Citizenship, Enterprise and Work related learning. Students are able to choose from a range of options including GCSEs and Vocational Courses.
Homework
The time spent on homework will range from one hour an evening in Year 7 to two hours in Year 11. Sixth Formers will spend up to three hours a night involved in homework tasks and background reading and research. Parents are asked to see that their child spends an appropriate time on homework in an atmosphere conducive to study. Your child will have a homework timetable in their planner which allows you to follow what your child should be doing each night. The school library is available in the mornings and throughout the day for pupils to do research or complete homework tasks.
