Science Department Print E-mail

The Science Department has refurbished labs some with computer workstations and interactive whiteboards. The teaching staff are 7 well qualified Biology and Chemistry graduates supported by 2 full time technicians.

 We are currently developing an environmental area for conservation and ecology work in the school grounds. For many years the Department has helped Birmingham University in training Science (Biology) PGCE Students.

Key Stage 3 (years 7 to 9)

Pupils study science for 3 hours per week. Science lessons involve practical lessons, project work and use a wide range of resources. Pupils regularly get feedback on their progress and targets are set to help them improve.

Science Discovery Club

This attracts mainly KS3 Pupils for fun activities in science outside school hours.

Key Stage 4 (years 10 & 11)

Double and Single award science are taught to groups in Y10 & 11 in either 4 hours or 2 hours of lesson time. Investigations are carried out for assessment in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

A levels

Science A levels (AS & A2) are taught in Biology and Chemistry in 5 hours per week of lesson time. Physics Students attend consortium lessons at Bishop Walsh School . Recent students have gone on to do science courses at leading universities. Birmingham University : Dentistry, Pharmacology, Manchester University : Physics, Chemistry, Imperial College ( London University ): Engineering, Physics, Aston University : Microbiology
