Music Department Print E-mail

The music department has two well-qualified teaching staff. Four auxiliaries staff from the Birminghamusic.pngm Music Services supports the department and teach a variety of pupils during the school day, violin, guitar, brass and woodwind. There is a first class music recording studio and live room, equipped to record live bands to small orchestras.

Key stage 3:

Pupils study music for one hour per week. Music lessons involve practical work, allowing pupils opportunities to use a variety of resources within the department in order to fulfil a variety of stimulating tasks. Pupil’s progress is carefully monitored and feedback is given regularly with targets set in order to help pupils make further improvements.

Key stage 4:

In years 10 and 11, GCSE music students receive two hours of lessons each week. Pupils follow the OCR GCSE syllabus, based on coursework, a practical and a written examination.

Key stage 5:

In years 12 and 13, Pupils study music technology at AS and A2 level and receive five hours of lessons each week.  Pupils follow the Edexcel Music Technology syllabus based on coursework, a diary and written examinations.

The music department supplies pupils with a variety of opportunities to express and develop musical skills and talent including

• Gospel choir
• Orchestra
• Keyboard club
• Drum club
• GCSE music club
• School production
