We’re working hard here at St. Edmund Campion to ensure that communication between home and school is maintained at all times. Led by Mr Wigley, our Strategic Director of ICT, we are developing a comprehensive communications package to deliver real time information to parents.  The package consists of 5 elements, most of which now rely on electronic means and use the Internet in order to deliver this real time information.
As well as general information about school life and events, accurate and up to date information from school is available about pupil progress, attitude and behaviour and attendance.
The 5 elements of our communications package are explained below:

As well as general information about school life and events, accurate and up to date information from school is available about pupil progress, attitude and behaviour and attendance.
The 5 elements of our communications package are explained below:

news.png  Newsletters - The traditional means of communication still exists where pupils are relied on to deliver paper based letters. The Headteacher writes a weekly newsletter which is given to each pupil every Friday to take home. These newsletters are also available to download from the school web site.
The School Web Site - The web site is the first port of call for general information about the school. It is also kept up to date on an almost daily basis with stories and articles about the life of the school. Pupils and parents can look back to see what students from St Edmund Campion have achieved as they go about their daily lives at school. web.png
eportal  Eportal - This is a system which requires a user name and password and allows parents to view important information that is held on the school's management system (Serco Facility) such as personal information and attendance and punctuality. Event logs are also used to record incidents both good and bad. Perhaps the most important part of this system is that, as teachers use the management system to record pupil progress, this information is available to parents immediately. Parents can monitor whether pupils are progressing normally and can intervene where they think that action is required.
Virtual Learning Environment – Due to be launched in September 2008 our Virtual Learning Environment is currently under development.  This new package will contain virtual classrooms which will carry resources and assignments for pupils and will allow pupils to submit their work electronically.  This system will also be protected by a user name and password.  Both pupils and parents will be able to access the system and parents will be able to monitor their child’s progress in lessons and see what assignments have been set. There will also be notice boards and information specific to staff and parents. This system will be available both in school and from any Internet based computer at home. eportal2.png
tru.png  Truancy Call – We have been using electronic registration as St. Edmund Campion since September 2007.  Pupils are registered when they first arrive at school in the morning and then during every lesson of the day.  Beginning in early 2008 this information will then be immediately read by Truancy Call. It then makes automated calls to parents informing them that their child has not been registered for school and requests parental approval. The system can also be used to make calls to selected groups of parents reminding them of such activities as Parents' meetings and other events.
